Tables that are Both Beautiful and Functional

When space is an issue or you want to get more out of your budget, you can choose pieces that are multi-functional without sacrificing beauty most of the time. For example, a decorative metal coat rack adds function and artistic design or a patio metal wall art can be moved indoors over the fireplace to work as an outstanding focal point. Another great example of this type of versatile decorating is choosing tables that are both beautiful and functional for dining and living spaces. Many tables offer more than just a space to place things, depending on your available budget and other key considerations, such as how much room you have.

Necessary tables, such as the dining table, do not have to be purely functional, even if your decor is simple or rustic. Consider a great reclaimed wood table with twisted legs, which is very rustic, with a glass top to make it more elegant. Add drawers under the table for some storage space for napkins and rings or tablecloths, and you add functional to beautiful. There is nothing that says beauty should sacrifice versatility, or vice versa, where furniture is concerned.

Replace an outdated, bulky coffee table with a great console table to add an entryway to a smaller living room. A console table is thin and modern, and adds the look of a separate space for the entry even if there is no other way to mark the difference between the entryway and the living room. Add a great lamp and a mirror above to give the feel of more space, and to add depth to the console table. A drawer in the console adds functionality to a beautiful table, and can be the perfect place to store keys, wallets, and other small items that get lost easily as you come into the home.

Use a console table to create the feel of two rooms within the same room if you have a large space to deal with. Put the couch closer to the center of the room, and add a console table that is about the same height at the back of the couch. With a lamp and the right accessories, it feels like a social gathering space even if the living room is very large. The console table can be used by itself if you have a big, spacious room to break up; by adding a small stool you can design a place to use the laptop without cluttering up the desk.

An old sewing table is another example of a table that can be used to serve the dual purposes of functionality and beauty.Use the cabinet for valuable extra storage space in any room, and the table still performs as a table or desk space without having to do any conversion. For craft-experienced decorators, it is not difficult to use an affordable antique sewing table to house a modern sewing machine to save space. When you choose this option, it negates the necessity of having to have a sewing room unless you have a lot of craft projects. The sewing machine hides away when not in use, too, which is handy.
