A Mancave that Features Wilderness Style
65
When decorating a home, it's important to keep the man of the house in mind. Although he undoubtedly uses and enjoys all the other rooms of the home, his personal "mancave" space is likely to be his favorite area. In some cases, the basement, garage or a spare bedroom can serve quite nicely as a mancave. However, regardless of the location, it's important that it be decorated in a way to suits the man's personal preferences and needs. For the man who loves the outdoors, a mancave that features a wilderness-style decorating theme can be the perfect choice.
Designing the Perfect Wilderness Mancave
For the man who already has a mancave but wants to give it a bit more style, creating a wilderness look and feel can be a fairly easy task. However, if he's just starting out with a new room, it can be worthwhile to do a bit of planning before the decorating begins. In order to create the perfect room, it's important to determine what the room will customarily be used for. For example, a room that is used primarily for watching football games might be quite different from a room designed to play video games, enjoy a game of pool, or as a place to use fitness equipment. Once the necessary furniture pieces or equipment are in place, then it's time to add a few wilderness touches.
Choosing the Perfect Color Palette
Natural colors and deep, rich shades are often the perfect choice for any mancave. In order to make the room reminiscent of the wilderness, choose colors such as brown, taupe, dark green, and charcoal gray. Although many men prefer a mancave that has an overall dark and relaxing look and feel, you could also add a few light color accents to brighten things up just a bit. In addition to choosing colors from nature, patterns that are reminiscent of the great outdoors can also add a nice touch. Wallpaper patterns that feature a wilderness scene can work well, as can a hunting motif. Deep, rich colored wood paneling can also be the perfect choice for walls. When choosing fabrics, those that have an outdoorsy or nature themed print are the obvious choice. Rustic patterns such as bold plaids also work quite well.
Focus on the Fireplace
A fireplace is the perfect addition to any mancave, but of course it's even more vital to one that has a wilderness look and feel. Most men relish the idea of exploring their primal roots by building the perfect fire. If you're lucky, the room will have a working wood-burning fireplace. However, if the room is minus a built-in fireplace, you might have to improvise. There are a wide variety of gas fireplaces on the market today, many of which are amazingly realistic. Adding one of these fireplaces can really add the wilderness touch to the room.
Choosing the Perfect Furniture Pieces
For the mancave devoted primarily to watching television, playing video games and just relaxing, a comfortable recliner chair or sofa is an absolute must. When selecting furniture pieces, choose solid-looking pieces with clean lines and a minimum of fussy details. Oversized and overstuffed furniture pieces can add a lot of comfort and warmth to the room in addition to a great overall look. When in doubt, it's best to choose large, bold pieces.
Adding the Finishing Touches
Decor that reflects the outdoor life is the perfect choice when decorating a wilderness mancave. Animal skin rugs, antler wall hangings, horse metal wall art, camping lanterns, or forest and sun metal wall sculptures can add the perfect finishing touch to a wilderness themed mancave.
